Part Eleven

(Read from the Beginning)

EXT. THE DARK PATH – CONTINUOUS.

May cries in silence unable to move.

Alone in the darkness.

For the longest time she hides in the shadows, looking down the road making sure the Suit has gone.

She is scared and ashamed. Frozen, but she fights back the tears and leaves the safety of the shadows like a deer stepping into the road.

But out of the darkness from behind her, long grey hands reach out and envelope her wrapping around her face and body pulling her back deeper into the darkness. One of those spectral hands cover her mouth silencing her screams as she disappears into the darkness.

CUT TO:

INT. MAY’S APARTMENT – MORNING.

VOICE
Wake up.

May wakes up with a start Sheets stained with sweat and panic.

She looks around herself.

Was it all a dream?

Next to her Tommy asleep.

She gets up and goes to the bathroom and throws cold water on her face and tries to get her shit together.

It helps. A little and for a long while she just stands there before hopping in the shower

As she showers she runs her over the lines of abuse on her back. Whip marks?

In the shower she tries to wash the grime of the past night off her skin. She and us still unsure as to what happened.

She looks down at her feet at the water flowing in a spiral around then down the shower drain and it transfixes her.

There’s a knock on the door.

Once out of the shower with her hair up she fixes coffee in a metal cafetiere.

As it percolates she slowly regains her self.

She takes a the coffee and puts it next to the bed and she touches the body in the bed.

MAY (CONT’D)
Hey.

Tommy isn’t really asleep. He rolls over half half open and smiles at her.

TOMMY
Hey.

May looks at Tommy trying to open both eyes. She stands over him holding on to her coffee cups with both hands.

TOMMY (CONT’D)
What time is it?

MAY
Late. I gotta go to work.

TOMMY
You go I’ll crash here.

She looks at him. She wants him to stay. He smiles.

TOMMY (CONT’D)
Thanks for the invite.

She smiles back.

TOMMY (CONT’D)
I am so stoned over.

She says nothing.

He’s struggling with the morning. He sits himself up and takes the coffee from the nightstand.

She opens the curtains a crack looking outside.

MAY
You need to get up.

TOMMY
You don’t trust me touching your stuff?

She half smiles. He reaches for her and takes her hand. His eyes ask her if she’s ok?

MAY
I got work.

She takes on last look at him then heads to the kitchen.

He gets up and follows.

From behind her he slips his arms around her and tries to hug her. She flinches.

MAY (CONT’D)
You need to go now.

Tommy Pulls back.

TOMMY
Wow that was cold.

She turns and looks at him deep in his eyes.

MAY
You remember anything? From last night?

TOMMY
What?

MAY
You remember anything from last night?

TOMMY
All I remember is waiting for you at the party. You didn’t show so I dropped a party favour or two.

She stares at him. Disappointment.

TOMMY (CONT’D)
What the fuck? You want to tell me what the fuck is going on?

He’s mildly annoyed. This gets her back up.

MAY
Where were you?

TOMMY
I told you looking for you.

MAY
That’s not what you just said. You said you were waiting for me. Not looking.

TOMMY
I waited then I went looking.

MAY
What happened last night?

TOMMY.
I don’t know what you want.

MAY
What happened last night?

TOMMY
Thanks for the invite.

MAY
I didn’t invite you. What the fuck are you doing in my house?

May is shocked at her own outburst.

MAY (CONT’D)
I’m sorry. I’m just jittery.

Tommy smiles.

TOMMY
That’s ok baby.

MAY
Please. You gotta go. I need some space. Just go. Ok?

For a moment he just stares at her like a wounded animal. Then he storms off grabbing his clothes. She almost reaches out to touch his face but he pulls back.

TOMMY
Why am I here? You invited me?

MAY
I didn’t invite you.

That was cold.

She apologises with her eyes and pulls him in kissing him softly on the lips. Her fingers caress his face and he pulls her closer.

MAY (CONT’D)
I’m sorry.

Tommy is confused with May’s push me pull you thing.

TOMMY
I love you baby.

The two kiss passionately. He slips his hand around her and pull her in tighter, but she pulls back.

MAY
I can’t.

Tommy gets the hint. He grabs his stuff and goes to leave then looks back at May

TOMMY
I guess…I’ll see you at the party tonight?

She nods. There’ a knock on the door she turns to the door petrified.

Tommy’s gone.

Did he leave?

She is as confused as us.

There is another knock at the door.

She slowly edges towards the door.

Knock!

She points one ear toward the door

KNOCK!

She swings open the door and no one is there.

She looks to her left and the old lady is putting out another bottle of milk.

May finds this strange.

But no stranger than usual.

She looks over the balcony and there below her leaving her block is Tommy.

And something possesses her to grab her coat and follow him.
